Bite Stick Certification
This 6 hour course teaches officers the proper use bite sticks in situations involving aggressive animals. This course is designed for law enforcement, animal control, and professionals who may encounter aggressive animals as part of their daily duties.
Training Block A: Introduction to Oleoresin Capsicum Spray
- Components of bite sticks
- Dangerous dogs
- Liability considerations for using bite sticks
Training Block B: Officer Safety
- Reactionary gaps with animals
- Officer, public, and animal safety considerations
- Proper target areas
Training Block C: Bite Stick Operations
- Bite stick presentation techniques
- Striking techniques
- Reporting and documentation requirements
This course is restricted to law enforcement and animal care and control professionals who are employed by a municipal, county, state, or federal agency that authorizes officers to operations as part of their regular duties.
Students must attend all 6 hours of the course, demonstrate proficiency in safety, deployment, reporting and documentation procedures, and pass a comprehensive written examination with a score of 75% or better.

This course satisfies the training requirement of the Tactical Animal Control Officer Certification course’s Bite Stick Training Block, which also applies to the 110-hour AACIS certified Animal Control Officer certification course.
